Slovak Post Office presents 2011 IIHF WM stamps

On Friday the 25th of March the Post Office issued two stamps to commemorate the 2011 IIHF World Championship. The stamps feature a hockey goaltender and famous forward Pavol Demitra taking a penalty.

"We are very glad that, following the successful series of Euro coins featuring the Championship coin, that we can now present the public with a 2011 IIHF World Championship stamp," said Championship General Director Igor Nemeček.

"The Slovak Post Office are fans of our national team and we have engaged ourselves in the organization of the championship with the issue of the hockey postage stamps. Fans will be able to send messages to their friends with an original stamp," said Bela Lisáková from the Slovak Post Office internal and external communication department.

Along with the stamps, first day covers (FDC) with FDC stamps dated 25.3.2011 and domiciled Bratislava will be issued. The FCDs feature a hockey player with a hockey stick and a puck on a stadium ice rink. The artist behind the stamp design, FDC and also the FCD stamp is academic painter Doctor Igor Benca.

The stamps – which have a nominal value of €0.40 and €0.50 measure 26.5 x 44.1 mm, including perforations (top-sided) Both stamps can be used separately or together and are valid nationally and internationally from the 25th of March until they are recalled.
