Visit from the twin city Wuppertal

Deputy Mayor of the City of Košice Mikuláš Čečko received twenty-four members of the delegation from German city Wuppertal at the premises of the Historical Town Hall.
Members of the association „Freundeskreis Košice", led by Klaus Brausch, visited Košice to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Town Twinning Agreement between Košice and Wuppertal.
„Let me thank the leaders and all citizens of Wuppertal for demonstration of friendship and support that we have received for over thirty years, for a number of joint activities of citizens, associations and institutions. I would like to recall at least one event, which has a symbolic meaning. It was a joint artistic project of students from the grammar schools in Košice and Wuppertal, called Strange. In the spring of 2005 the project gained the Golden Star of Town Twinning for the promotion of active European citizenship,"– said Deputy Mayor Mikuláš Čečko.
Klaus Brausch gave greetings from Peter Jung, Mayor of Wuppertal.

„We are coming as equal to equal to Košice. The objectives defined in the partnership agreement are met through the activities of the Freundeskreis Košice and Freundeskreis Wuppertal. The most important objective has been achieved – the citizens of Košice can freely come to their twin city in Germany,"- said Klaus Brausch
The reception in the Historical Town Hall was also attended by the members of the Freundeskreis Wuppertal in Košice. At the meeting there was also the former Mayor of Košice /1983-1986, 1994-1999/ and President of the Slovak Republic /1999-2004/ Rudolf Schuster, who was the initiator of the partnership, and as the Head of the State of that time together with the President of the Federal Republic of Germany of that time, Johannes Rau, supported development of partnership relations between Wuppertal and Košice on the level of state representatives.
