František Knapík received a new Czech ambassador

The new ambassador of the Czech Republic, Mr. Jakub Karfík was received by Mayor of the City of Košice František Knapík on the premises of the Historical Town Hall on December 10th, 2009.

„This is the first official working visit of my diplomatic mission in Slovakia which is outside Bratislava. Your city has made a pleasant, favour and beautiful impression on me. I am pleasantly surprised by development of the city in recent time," said Jakub Karfík (50).

He was born in Prag, he studied Arabic and scenographics at the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University. He started his career as a trustee of the Náprsteks Museum of Asian, African and American cultures. In the 90´s he was a Director of the Collection of Oriental Art of the National Gallery in Prague and since 1995 he has been working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. He acted as an ambassador in Pakistan, the Arab Republic of Egypt and Sudan.

Mayor and the Czech Ambassador also discussed the project European Capital of Culture 2013, the positive relation of Košice and the inhabitants of the whole region of Eastern Slovakia with the Czech Republic, but also the closure of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Košice. „I would like to appreciate the current activities of the Czech Centre Košice all the more," said František Knapík. Just Kateřina Novotná, Director of the Czech Centre Košice took part in the meeting. The Czech Centre has its seat on Rázusova Street.
